The Role
Our team is growing, and we are looking to recruit a motivated and highly skilled HSQE Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will drive excellence in fleet HSQE management by implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving company policies, Safety Management Systems (SMS), and business continuity strategies. In this role, you will work closely with the HSQE Manager, vessel Masters, shipboard personnel, and shore-based departments to promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with international regulations and company standards, and support the continuous improvement of health, safety, quality, and environmental performance across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
1. Audits, Inspections & Compliance
- Conduct internal audits onboard/ashore (ISM, ISPS, MLC, ISOs)
- Coordinate 3rd party audits and inspections (PSC, FSI, TMSA)
- Monitor daily SMS implementation against international rules and best practices.
2. Data Analysis, RCA & Reporting
- Review and follow up audit reports, lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and track CAPA implementation.
- Facilitate Management Review Reports (MRR) and TMSA self-assessments, driving the review process through comprehensive data and trend analysis.
- Contribute to ESG reporting and company KPI development.
3. Fleet Support & Incident Tracking
- Oversee and close out Non-Conformities (NC), Masters' Reviews, Near Misses, and incidents.
- Investigate incidents and distribute fleet-wide lessons learned.
- Track seafarers' rest-hour non-conformances for compliance and resource planning.
4. Training & Risk Management
- Align risk assessments with TMSA and oversee the Management of Change (MoC) process.
- Conduct safety training for shore/sea personnel; brief/debrief Masters and Senior Officers.
- Maintain and test Business Continuity and Emergency Response plans.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Educational Background: Academic degree or professionally recognized qualification in Maritime Studies.
- Work Experience: 5 years of relevant experience. Prior seagoing experience constitutes an asset.
- Language Proficiency: Good knowledge of the English language (written and spoken).
- Technical & IT Skills: Familiarity with ERP systems. Knowledge of Danaos software will be considered a strong asset.
- Personal Attributes: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and professional integrity.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with maritime industry operations and HSQE processes.
