Position Code: Marine Superintendent
Enesel S.A. based in Athens, Greece, presently operating a diverse fleet of 17 modern high specification tankers, is currently looking for a highly motivated full-time Marine Superintendent to provide support to the Marine Department.
All existing vessels are constructed to the highest international standards in first-class shipyards. The entire fleet is chartered to high profile charterers and operators mainly on time-charter basis.
The ideal applicant is expected to have prior sailing experience in a senior capacity (Master/ Chief Mate) on International Trading - Oil / Gas / Chemical Tankers, hold Certificate of competency as Master Class A’ or B’, have a minimum of 3-years’ proven experience in a similar position ashore, or extensive experience of ship operations/management.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Marine inspections & audits: Conduct marine inspections, annual navigational, mooring, VDR, and cargo internal audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and company procedures.
- Navigational oversight: Review and manage electronic chart and publication orders for the managed fleet and office, ensuring all vessels maintain up-to-date navigational resources.
- Deck maintenance management: Develop and oversee the deck maintenance plan for the managed fleet, ensuring timely execution and compliance with maintenance schedules.
- Paint supplies & inventory control: Manage paint supply orders, monitor onboard stock levels (ROBs), and ensure vessels have adequate resources for deck maintenance.
- Dry-dock & maintenance supervision: Assist in drafting dry-dock specifications related to deck maintenance, oversee dry-dock and routine deck maintenance works, and ensure successful completion.
- Crew support & training: Provide guidance and technical support to crews on tank cleaning procedures and deliver onboard training to deck crew on good seamanship practices.
- Annual OPEX budget preparation/quarterly monitoring of accounts: Prepare and manage the annual operational expenditure (OPEX) budgets for the vessels under their responsibility, ensuring cost control and financial efficiency.
- Departmental KPI monitoring & Management Review Meetings (MRM): Track and analyze departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and prepare relevant comments, insights, and reports for discussion in Management Review Meetings (MRM).
- Claims & Incident Investigation: Support the Claims Department by providing documentation/evidence for claims. Act as a member of the incident investigation team, proposing corrective/preventive actions and presenting findings.
- Mooring operations & safety: Oversee and advise on vessel mooring operations, ensuring adherence to best safety practices.
- Regulatory compliance & industry updates: Monitor legislative changes affecting vessel operations and provide guidance on regulatory compliance requirements.
- Navigational standards & best practices: Maintain and enhance company navigational standards by reviewing existing practices, proposing improvements in equipment, training, and procedures.
- Procurement consultation: Advise the Procurement Department on deck store orders, including those related to newbuilding projects, ensuring the selection of appropriate equipment and supplies.
- Senior Deck Officer recruitment: Conduct interviews for incoming Senior Deck Officers, assessing their qualifications and suitability for the role.
- Briefing & de-briefing: Conduct briefing and de-briefing meetings with Masters and Chief Engineers, ensuring alignment with company policies, operational expectations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Personal characteristics:
- Fluency in English, both writing and verbally.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite, good knowledge of other professional software.
- Tech savvy and feel comfortable using technology daily.
- Strong report-writing and sound numeracy skills are requirement.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a collaborative mindset, accountability, and a proactive approach to developing solutions and alternatives.
- Strong self-drive and a genuine interest in the nature of the job.
- Ability to travel and attend vessels regularly for inspections, audits, and other HSQE-related tasks.
- Capability to work effectively under pressure in emergency situations.
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail paired with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
